Open Call .minx Workshop
Our society is filled with excess and overconsumption, but what can you do to deal with these issues? In April 2025, you will get to answer this question for yourself, as the artist duo from Hamburg, Xiao Fu and Daniel Bucurescu, will debut in the Shanghai Concert Hall with .minX, a performance that combines both sound and movement to address the philosophical world of Minimal Music against the backdrop of a consumerist society. In a connected workshop, you will delve deeper into the artistic practices personally led by the two artists at the Department of Culture and Education of the German Consulate General Shanghai, allowing you to explore interdisciplinary artistic methods in which you can address societal issues.
Living in a consumer-driven world full of media overload, art can become a way to process these issues. In this full-day .minX workshop, you will become privy to Xiao and Daniel’s artistic arsenal allowing you to create art about important challenges that face our society. Participants will be empowered to develop and work on their own artistic ideas using a multitude of media such as sound, noise, space and movement. Everyone aged 13-99, whether professional or amateur, is welcome to participate on equal footing in this workshop.
For this workshop, participants are welcome to bring their own artistic tools (e.g. musical instruments, sound boxes, written texts, costumes amongst other media that allow for self-expression) to create new artistic content. The workshop combines artistic-philosophical inputs, lab phases for individual or small-group creative work, and finally a shared artistic outcome that participants can perform at the end of the workshop. The goal is for the Hamburg artist-duo to share their own artistic practice and to empower participants to develop their own art.
